About the role

Operations at thump! is the unglamorous but critical work of making a small company run well. Finance hygiene, vendor management, hiring operations, the calendar of in-person team weeks, the systems that keep us from tripping over our own feet as we grow.

You'll partner with the founders and finance/legal advisors. Done well, this role is what allows engineering, design, and community to spend their time on the product instead of on logistics.

What you'll do

  • Own day-to-day finance operations: billing, expense management, vendor onboarding, monthly close partnership with our outside finance team.
  • Run hiring operations end-to-end — scheduling, candidate experience, offer logistics, onboarding.
  • Manage office and team logistics: workspace, travel, quarterly in-person team weeks, equipment.
  • Maintain core internal tools: HRIS, payroll, expense tools, knowledge base.
  • Partner with legal counsel on contracts, vendor agreements, and policy work.

What we're looking for

  • 4+ years of operations, business operations, or chief-of-staff-style experience, ideally at an early-stage startup.
  • Comfort owning multiple workstreams without dropping balls.
  • Strong written communication and a calm, organized demeanor.
  • High judgment on what is worth a process and what isn't.

Bonus, but not required

  • Experience supporting a finance close cycle and working with outside accountants.
  • Experience running early-stage hiring operations across multiple roles.
  • Familiarity with tools like Rippling, Brex, Notion, and Linear.

Compensation

$130,000 – $165,000 / yr base salary, plus meaningful equity in every full-time offer.

Base salary range for the Los Angeles metro. Final offer depends on level and experience. Includes meaningful equity. California pay range disclosed in compliance with SB 1162.
